February 09, 2013
It's that time of year again. February 14 is almost here, and you're probably caught without a gift for your significant other. Luckily, there's always one or two things around the house that could use a little updating. But don't choose just any old renovation project - pick out one with some romantic potential. Consider these five home design tips for your valentine.
1. Have new flooring installed Hardwood flooring might not jump to mind when you think romance, but when those floors have the elegance and beauty of the hand-carved collections made by Anderson Floors, there's no better word. Take the Dellamano collection as an example. Meaning "of the hand" in Italian - known as a romance language for a reason - the Dellamano line is one of Anderson's most distinctive floors, with extra-wide planks, all hand-scraped and sanded to a truly unique appearance. Choose between maple or hickory wood, but know you're getting a one-of-a-kind product.
2. Frame a favorite poster, print or painting
Does your loved one have a particular poster, print or painting that he or she loves? Whether it's a reproduction of a famous Pre-Raphaelite, a poster from that concert you both happened to meet at or a photo of the two of you, getting it framed and placed somewhere special is a great idea and surely one of the more romantic options you could choose.
3. Get creative with wall decals
Looking for some impermanent but stylish wall decorations? If you want something you could leave up for years or just the month, check out wall decals. These are a cheap and fun option that look great. Hearts, flowers and any variety of romantic gestures are available.
4. Invest in a loveseat
Does that ratty old couch really need to go? Have you been in the market for some stylish new furniture that's cozy and relaxing? There couldn't possibly be a better time to invest in a brand new loveseat for you and your special someone!
5. Snuggle up for a few romantic movies
Of course, there's no reason the two of you can't enjoy a night in with a roaring fire - maybe on your brand new loveseat! You could always make the leap on a brand new high-definition TV as well. Find a romantic classic you both love and settle in with popcorn and a bottle of red wine.
